Aiwanger: "Bavarian chip strategy pays off - new settlement"
TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company), the world's largest independent contract manufacturer of semiconductor products, has chosen Munich as the location for its European Design Center (EUDC). Bavaria's Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger welcomes the decision to locate in Bavaria: "The fact that TSMC is setting up its new design center here in Bavaria shows: Bavaria is a magnet for leading international high-tech companies. Chip design seeks proximity to users - and that is exactly what we offer: A unique ecosystem of customers, suppliers, car manufacturers and excellently trained specialists. Bavaria is the European leader here."
At the instigation of the Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger, a Bavarian chip design center and a chip alliance with broad expertise have been established in recent years in order to become more independent of non-European players and to be able to help shape this future technology from Bavaria. This will consolidate Bavaria's strong role in the field of microelectronics.
The European Design Center is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2025 and is part of the global network of TSMC design locations, which already includes facilities in Taiwan, the USA and Japan. It will support customers in the development of high-density, high-performance and energy-efficient chips - with a particular focus on industries such as automotive, industrial applications, artificial intelligence (AI), telecommunications and the Internet of Things (IoT).
