Technical Meeting “Battery Systems – Technology & Qualification” at SKZ
Discussion on Technical Solutions in Module and Pack Design
November 4, 2026
At the TechHUB Batterie industry meeting held at the SKZ in Würzburg in late October, companies from across the battery value chain came together. The focus was on current challenges and technical solutions in module and pack manufacturing, ranging from bonding and joining technologies to quality assurance procedures.
A Glimpse into the SKZ Laboratories
Guided tours covering various topics provided insights into the SKZ laboratories, focusing on bonding and joining, material development and processing, as well as quality control and testing. One question in particular stood out:
“What factors influence the visual perception of plastic surfaces, and how can I measure this even at the granule stage?”
Live Podcast to Combat the Afternoon Slump
After the coffee break, the two SKZ moderators provided a boost of energy with a live podcast. They interviewed Lukas Kothmeier from LKMC GmbH and Matthias Gerhardt from the SKZ on the topic: “How can companies address the shortage of skilled workers and specifically train employees for the transformation of the battery industry?”.
Conversations That Connect the Battery Ecosystem
There was also plenty of opportunity for personal interaction. The conversations with company representatives during the lunch break were a particular highlight. Such encounters help the battery ecosystem grow closer together.
A key takeaway from the day:
Something needs to change regarding our dependence on battery cells. At the same time, important expertise in module manufacturing and system integration is already available. Innovative approaches and technologies can make all the difference here. Collaboration on the global stage also requires reliable statements and commitments. At the corporate level, this exchange is already working well.
The SKZ is one of the educational institutions in the B³ Battery Education Network Bavaria. Thus, the discussion on training and the development of necessary skills in battery production also fit the theme of the day.
