Resource sovereignty through material innovations

Funding guideline for projects on material innovations through sustainable use of raw materials

24.09.2024

The Material Hub initiative "MaterialNeutral" promotes material innovations to solve pressing social and industry-relevant issues. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research supports materials research in order to reduce dependence on raw materials and conserve resources.

The funding guideline addresses both the goals of the National Circular Economy Strategy and the missions of a competitive industry, sustainable mobility and digital and technological sovereignty in Germany and Europe. The following goals are pursued in detail:

  • Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in material production
  • Conservation of primary raw materials
  • Reduction of dependencies on raw materials
  • Reduction of harmful effects on people and the environment

The achievement of these goals should be measurable at the end of the project term using concrete indicators, including through the accompanying project "MANTRA" in cooperation with R&D projects. Specifically, high-risk, application-oriented and pre-competitive R&D work will be funded as part of individual and collaborative projects.
The deadline for submitting project outlines is 17 January 2025.
