More than 82 gigawatts of peak photovoltaic (PV) systems have already been installed in Germany, which corresponds to twice the German base load. However, a considerable increase is required to achieve a completely CO2-neutral energy supply.
In future, the trend will increasingly be towards PV systems on surfaces that are already in use, such as roofs, facades or agricultural land. Such areas are available in urban areas in particular, but there are challenges when it comes to the maintenance and care of these systems.
To address these challenges, the "digitalPV" innovation network was established to develop digitalization solutions for the planning, operation and maintenance of PV systems. The network comprises 15 partners from industry and science and is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.
At the kick-off meeting in February 2025, initial ideas for innovative technologies such as automated PV testing and artificial intelligence for diagnostic systems were developed. Further partners from all over Germany are welcome to participate.
