New e-truck registrations in Bavaria up 80 percent in the last three months
17.10.2025
While the new registration rate for electric trucks was still at 6.4% in Q2, it almost doubled to 11.5% in Q3. There has also been a further increase in the new registration rate for passenger cars.
The figures in detail (***see assumptions)
Charging infrastructure
1) Charging locations:
In Q3, modernizations or new installations were carried out at a total of 1098 charging locations in Bavaria. In total, there are now over 37,500 publicly accessible charging points available to electric mobility enthusiasts, whose current occupancy status and much more information can be viewed via the Bavarian Charging Atlas (Ladeatlas Bayern). Over 75 percent of these new charging points are AC locations with type 2 plugs. This means that an above-average number of new AC charging points were put into operation in Q3 compared to the previous quarters. Accordingly, the proportion of new or renewed DC charging points in the last quarter was only 16%. The total charging infrastructure in Bavaria is currently made up of 73% AC-only charging points and a good 13% each of DC and mixed locations.
2) Charging processes:
The almost 3 million charging processes processed (at publicly accessible charging points) in the past quarter represent a new absolute record in Bavaria! As in the previous quarter, the 1.67 million fast charging processes exceeded the number of AC charging processes (1.31 million processes). It can be observed that the gap is widening and the ratio of AC to DC charging processes is now 0.8 to 1. In the past quarter, an average of 79 charging processes were carried out per charging point and an average of around 25 kWh (forecast) was charged per charging process. In total, the amount of energy charged in Bavaria in Q3 2025 is forecast to be around 75 GWh, which also represents a new record.
3) TOP 10 charging locations in Bavaria
The BMW site in Munich is one of the largest (semi-)public charging hubs in Bavaria, with over 600 charging points and a wide range of charging services for its users. Due to the high number of charging points, a correspondingly high number of charging processes are handled there, meaning that this location was once again able to secure first place. In terms of the average number of charging processes per charging point, however, this location, with 43 charging processes per quarter, is well below the Bavarian average, which, as mentioned, was 79 in Q3/2025.
The situation is completely different at locations 2, 3 and 5. At these Ionity fast-charging parks, which are located directly on freeways 8 and 9, well over 1,000 charging processes were once again completed per charging point in the last quarter. The 1,574 charging processes per charging point at Köschinger Forst West in Q3 correspond to an average of over 17 charging processes per charging point per day. The other TOP 10 charging locations in Bavaria are also all charging parks close to freeways and therefore have very good capacity utilization rates.
4) TOP 10 CPOs in Bavaria
In terms of CPOs (charge point operators), a differentiated picture emerges for AC and DC operators in Bavaria. Over a third of Bavaria's publicly accessible AC charging points are operated by Ladeverbund+ and Stadtwerke München. Vaylens, Virta and LichtBlick follow at a considerable distance behind. The top 10 AC CPOs operated almost 64% of the Bavarian AC charging infrastructure in Q2 2025.
The picture is somewhat different for the operators of the Bavarian DC charging infrastructure with a nominal charging capacity of up to 130kW. On the one hand, four food retailers - Kaufland, ALDI Süd, Lidl and Edeka - are represented among the TOP10 CPOs. On the other hand, E.On Drive Infrastructure dominates the DC charging infrastructure operators by a wide margin with a market share of almost 19%. EnBW follows in second place with 11.5 percent, followed by Kaufland with a good 8 percent. At almost 67%, the TOP 10 DC CPOs operated almost exactly two thirds of the Bavarian DC charging infrastructure in Q2 2025 and therefore had a similarly high market share in total as the AC TOP 10 CPOs.
Electric vehicles:
The share of new registrations (BEV + PHEV) of electric vehicles in Bavaria in Q3/2025 was 28.1%, 2.3 percentage points higher than in the previous quarter. This shows that the proportion of newly registered BEVs + PHEVs has risen steadily again in recent quarters, even without subsidies, and that one in four newly registered cars can now be powered purely by electricity. There are currently over 600,000 chargeable cars on the road in Bavaria. The number of chargeable vehicles (BEV + PHEV) per public AC charging point in Bavaria remains stable at 21 vehicles. One DC charging point in Bavaria is currently shared by the equivalent of 45 BEVs (previous quarter: 46 BEVs). This means that the efforts to expand the charging infrastructure in Bavaria are having an impact and are currently keeping pace with new e-vehicle registrations.
The proportion of new registrations of BEVs in Bavaria in Q2 was 18.2% and of PHEVs 9.9%. The largest share of all-electric vehicles (BEVs) in new registrations was again registered in the administrative district of Middle Franconia (22.8%). This was closely followed by the administrative district of Lower Franconia with 22.4%.
However, the electrification trend is particularly strong for e-trucks. In Q3 2025, e-trucks accounted for 11.5 percentage points of new registrations, 80% more than in Q2/2025 (6.4%). The share of newly registered electric tractor units (E-ZM) was one percent and thus at the same level as the previous quarter. In the commercial vehicle sector, too, there are already over 12,000 all-electric e-trucks and e-trucks on the roads in Bavaria.
TOP 5 districts / cities passenger cars:
Broken down to cities or districts, the city of Schwabach (Middle Franconia) landed in first place in Q3 2025 with a BEV new registration rate of 40 percent. The city of Aschaffenburg (Lower Franconia) follows in second place with almost 35%. The district of Amberg-Sulzbach (Upper Palatinate) follows closely behind in third place, also with just under 32 percentage points. The districts of Schweinfurt (Lower Franconia) and Eichstätt (Upper Bavaria) took 4th and 5th place with 30 and 28.2 percent of new BEV registrations respectively.
TOP 5 districts / cities for e-trucks:
In terms of e-trucks, the district of Landsberg am Lech (Upper Bavaria) is in first place with a very high share of new e-truck registrations of almost 43 percent, with a correspondingly large gap. The city of Munich (Upper Bavaria) is in second place with 22 percent of new e-truck registrations. It is closely followed by 3rd place (city of Kaufbeuren (Swabia)), 4th place (district of Wunsiedel im Fichtelgebirge (Upper Franconia)) and 5th place (district of Freising (Upper Bavaria)) with 21%, 20% and 19% of new e-truck registrations respectively.

*** Assumptions:
1) The vehicle stocks are based on the KBA stock figures at the beginning of the year and are still offset against a forecast of new registrations.
2) For the ratio of charging processes per charging point, we offset the total number of recorded charging processes against the number of charging points from which we obtain dynamic ("live") data. The ratio of dynamic charging points to the total number of charging points for Bavaria is over 80%.
3) The quarterly report documents the development of public charging infrastructure in Bavaria. The information on the development of these charging options therefore relates to publicly accessible charging locations and therefore does not generally take into account charging points from closed user groups (e.g. charging points in private underground car parks, on factory premises, etc.).
