Publication of the 3rd Bavarian Cultural and Creative Industries Report

21.06.2024

On June 21, 2024, the third Bavarian Cultural and Creative Industries Report was published - published by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy; compiled by the Bavarian Center for Cultural and Creative Industries (part of Bayern Innovativ GmbH). The 3rd report sheds light on an industry in turbulent times. Bavaria, Germany and the world are facing major transformation tasks and aesthetic creativity is increasingly being called upon to help overcome them.

"Bavaria is a creative powerhouse and we are working to further strengthen the industry and open it up to the outside world. Bavaria stands for cutting-edge technology and creativity. When the two come together, highly innovative solutions and new business areas are created."

- Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger

The report therefore addresses a time of transitions and not only provides up-to-date figures that for the first time allow reliable statements to be made about the extent to which the industry has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, but also reflects developments relevant to the industry. Guest contributions from the cultural and creative industries have been collected, which reflect both the level of the players and the intermediaries. The transformation spans the report, which is expressed in the results of the first trend radar for the Bavarian cultural and creative industries (KKW), the individual contributions of the guest authors and the concluding recommendations for action.

It discusses the maturation of the industry itself, its function as a research-based, knowledge-generating force, the importance of transdisciplinarity in answering increasingly complex questions, the influence of the cultural and creative industries on a developing culture of digitality and the new in its industry-specific manifestations. This includes a new responsibility of the cultural and creative industries as a social actor as well as characteristics and conditions of entrepreneurial practice, which are concretized in a new communality with regard to the pursuit of cultural and creative industry interests, in the development of new transformation-enabling competencies as well as the provision of new spaces that promote the explorative, experimental and entrepreneurial new.
