The MedtecSUMMIT Congress 2025, organized on behalf of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, took place on 18 and 19 February in the Meistersingerhalle Nuremberg and confirmed its role as the leading platform for exchange and innovation in the medical technology industry. Over two days, 785 international experts from industry, science, politics and medicine gathered to discuss groundbreaking topics and present innovative solutions to the challenges facing the industry.
The highlights of the congress were many and varied: a total of 12 specialist sessions covered key topics such as clinical robotics, digital health applications, the use of health data, artificial intelligence and innovations in biomaterials and smart implants. These sessions not only promoted new ideas, but also creative networking with a spirit of innovation.
Special attention was paid to the Medtech Start-up Pitch Contest on the afternoon of February 18, where pre-selected start-ups presented their innovative developments to a panel of experts. Eight out of a total of 40 submissions qualified for the pitch. The winners were announced during the evening state reception at the Kaiserburg: First place went to the company Breathment, followed by Eupnoos in second place and Oxford Heartbeat in third place. The successful start-up contest highlighted the enormous potential of innovative solutions in the medtech sector.
Following the welcome address by State Secretary Tobias Gotthardt, the evening event in the Kaiserburg hall provided a special opportunity for intensive discussions and new partnerships at the highest level.
The MedtecLIVE Innovation Expo complemented the congress: here, companies presented their pioneering technologies and products and thus created a valuable exchange.
As part of the congress, the partners of the Alliance for Sustainable Medical Technology also signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen the commitment to sustainability in the industry. This session highlighted the growing importance of sustainable medical technology; regulatory requirements as well as corporate and customer responsibility are driving the shift towards more environmentally friendly materials and processes. Collaboration and practical pilot projects are crucial for the implementation of sustainable solutions.
In the "Digital Innovation Medtech" session, it became clear that despite technological advances, there are considerable challenges in implementation, particularly in the care sector. Close collaboration between research, industry and users is crucial to driving digitalization forward - practice-oriented solutions must be developed directly with users. Another highlight here was the presentation of the trend radar "Digitalization in the healthcare sector".
"MedtecSUMMIT is an indispensable meeting place for everyone who wants to actively shape the future of medical technology," emphasized Dr. Jörg Traub, Head of Health at Bayern Innovativ GmbH. The participants also praised the high quality of the presentations and the practical insights into current developments. Manuela Ernst, Senior Project Manager at the AO Research Institute Davos, was enthusiastic about the exciting first session on AI and robotics: "As we are currently working on new products ourselves, these were very interesting insights. A key learning in this session was the immense importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the early involvement of clinicians - this is the only way to translate innovative ideas into practicable medical solutions. Ethics and data-driven decisions are crucial to successfully meeting the challenges in healthcare.
The success of MedtecSUMMIT 2025 impressively demonstrates how important interdisciplinary exchange is for the further development of an innovative, future-oriented healthcare industry. Be part of the next MedtecSUMMIT at automatica!
