AI in the creative industries: New dossier shows opportunities and risks

04.05.2026

How is artificial intelligence changing creative work? A current thematic dossier commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media provides new insights into the transformation of the cultural and creative industries.

The analysis shows: Generative and agentic AI are already intervening in central processes, from idea generation and production to distribution and business models. Content can be developed faster, workflows automated and target groups addressed more individually.

What is changing:
- Creatives are taking on more curatorial and strategic roles
- Routine tasks are being automated
- New business models are emerging through AI-based services
- Technological and conceptual thinking are merging

In addition to the potential, the dossier also identifies key challenges: Copyright issues, increasing competitive pressure from AI-generated content and new dependencies on platforms. As a result, quality and creative differentiation are becoming increasingly important.
One thing is certain: AI is not replacing creative work, but rather shifting its focus. It will be crucial to use technology consciously and clearly position one's own perspectives.
