Insights into Modern Cold-Chain Logistics
BVL Regional Group Meeting at the Nagel Group in Nuremberg-Feucht
October 19, 2026
The focus was on the new facility, the integration of the Ansbach and Bamberg branches, and the processes involved in frozen food logistics. The facility, which opened in 2024, demonstrates just how diverse the requirements for interfaces, machinery, the vehicle fleet, and personnel are when different temperature zones must be efficiently coordinated.
How can a state-of-the-art cold-chain logistics center be successfully launched, and what challenges arise when two locations are merged? At the meeting of the BVL Franconia Regional Group on October 13, 2026, participants gained exclusive insights into the multi-temperature facility of Nagel-Group Logistics SE in Nuremberg-Feucht. Our colleague from the Innovative Construction division, Frank Hoppe, attended in his role as a funding and transformation advisor for Bayern Innovativ and as a member of BVL e.V.
The participants were welcomed by Johannes Rebelein, regional group spokesperson, and Timo Petschner, deputy regional group spokesperson for Franconia. Mirko Schmidt, Regional Manager South, and Maik Labahn, Nuremberg Site Manager at Nagel-Group Logistics SE, spoke candidly about the challenges surrounding planning, construction, and commissioning. It became clear that commissioning marks the beginning of a new phase. The initial ramp-up and day-to-day operations present their own challenges, which must be tackled collectively as a team. The on-site insights provided practical solutions for the successful launch of one of the most modern cold-chain logistics centers in the Franconia region.
A tour of the deep-freeze warehouse, cold storage, and high-bay warehouse rounded out the program. During the get-together that followed, participants were able to further deepen this valuable exchange of experiences.
Many thanks to the BVL e.V. Franconia Regional Group and Nagel-Group Logistics SE for making this interesting meeting possible!
