Development of innovative reinforcement textiles for the automotive industry

Automotive: Fiber-reinforced thermoplastic shell/rib components increase strength by at least 50%

02.10.2024

As part of a completed research project, innovative reinforcement textiles were developed that significantly improve shell/rib components made of continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastic. This technology enables uniform fiber reinforcement, which increases stiffness and strength by at least 50% and prevents delamination. The cost-effective production using the thermoforming process opens up new application possibilities in the automotive industry, for example for battery housings and bumpers.
