The past year has shown how much the approach to digitalization in agriculture has changed. Many topics have become more mature, discussions more concrete, questions more precise. KNeDL's activities focused less on the technology itself and more on its use in day-to-day operations. Whether at events, in projects or in direct exchanges, the focus was on experiences, limitations and solutions that have to withstand real-life conditions.
It became clear how different the starting points are and how valuable the open dialog between practice, development and application is. Digital tools were not idealized, but rather classified. What actually helps? Where do we need to adapt? And what conditions need to be met for digital approaches to be effective?
KNeDL addressed these questions and created platforms on which knowledge could be shared, discussed and further developed.
Online event: "AI-supported data ecosystems: Paving the way in agriculture"
AI in agriculture promises a lot, but the reality often struggles with data silos and rigid systems. At the KNeDL and Gaia-X-Hub Germany online event, experts discussed how the breakthrough can be achieved. The focus: sovereignty instead of dependency.
Projects such as Agri-Gaia and AgIN show how a decentralized marketplace for AI services and intelligent interfaces - so-called "common connectors" - can radically simplify the exchange between manufacturers and farmers. The goal is a networked ecosystem in which data is processed where it is generated and farms retain full control.
Read in retrospect why technical interoperability and new business models are now setting the course for a digital agribusiness.
Online event: From concept to practice: energy management systems in agriculture
On 25 November 2025, the online webinar showed how agricultural businesses can systematically record and optimize their energy consumption with the help of energy management systems. The basics and benefits of EMS, legal framework conditions and funding opportunities were presented, supplemented by practical application examples.
The event provided concrete impetus for greater energy efficiency, cost reduction and sustainable management in agriculture.
Out of theory and into practice: on a discovery tour with KNeDL
What will tomorrow's agriculture look like today? The "KNeDL on a discovery tour" format leaves the conference room and goes to where innovations have to prove their practicality: directly on the farms, in the test fields and to the inventors on site.
We take a look at how sensors, robots and software are actually changing everyday working life - with all the opportunities and hurdles. Benefit from real insights and valuable contacts with pioneers on the scene.
Join us on tour and experience hands-on technology. Take a look at what we learned from the professionals on site.
KNeDL at the AgriTechnica 2025
The world's leading trade fair in Hanover showed that autonomous systems and AI have left the prototype phase. Our review shows market-ready innovations such as the Fendt Xaver GT for mechanical weed control or the sensor-supported fertilizer planning software from Agvolution.
The focus is on the automation of process chains and the use of learning sensor technology to conserve resources. We provide an overview of the trends not to be missed and how the KNeDL network partners presented themselves at the trade fair.
Female Agri Fellows Summit 2025
As a representative of the competence network, our colleague Kathrin Schuberth took part in the Female Agri Fellows Summit 2025 in Münster, a two-day premiere that brought together women from agriculture, agribusiness, research and technology. Around 140 participants took advantage of the format to exchange ideas, network and develop personally.
The central theme of the summit was how women can strengthen their role in future-oriented agriculture - particularly in terms of leadership, innovation and technology. Keynote speeches and workshops taught skills that help women to successfully integrate and further develop technical and digital solutions in their farms and companies. In her keynote speech, Friederike von Rundstedt, from RoBoTec PTC, emphasized the courage to actively participate in technological change and contribute her own ideas.
The summit clearly showed that networks such as Female Agri Fellows create spaces in which women can become visible, network and actively shape technological topics. Especially in times when digitalization and innovative agricultural technologies are shaping the future of the industry, it is crucial that female perspectives and skills are brought in on an equal footing.
Shaping the future: Scholarship holder workshop on digitalization in agriculture
In July 2025, scholarship holders of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation discussed the opportunities and challenges of digital agriculture at the Kerschensteiner Kolleg. After a keynote speech by Christian Metz on current technologies - from sensor technology and drones to AI-supported herd management - the participants developed the perspectives of key stakeholder groups in a role play.
The intensive debate revealed areas of tension between innovation and regulation as well as shared values such as transparency, fairness and the responsible use of AI. In the final circle, it became clear that digitalization is an important tool, but the responsibility remains with the people: the workshop not only strengthened knowledge about digital agricultural technologies, but also promoted constructive exchange - a decisive step for the sustainable design of tomorrow's agriculture.
KNeDL in the LKV magazine: AI in agriculture
Regular contributions
The Landeskuratorium der Erzeugerringe für tierische Veredelung in Bayern e. V. (LKV Bayern) has launched a regular AI section in its LKV magazine, in which we provide practical insights into the use of artificial intelligence in agriculture.
The aim of the cooperation is to present digital topics in an understandable way and to sensitize farms to the opportunities, application examples and challenges of AI.
In this way, technological trends and practical solutions for everyday farm life are systematically presented and together we strengthen the transfer of knowledge between research, practice and consulting in the field of digital farming.
The series of articles is aimed at farms and consultants who want to use digital innovations in a future-oriented way.
New organizational assignment: KNeDL in the Production department
KNeDL has moved to the Production department and remains true to its content focus. Thematically, the focus remains on digitalization, while organizationally, the new framework opens up additional points of contact. The proximity to production-related topics facilitates coordination, strengthens interfaces and supports cooperation with related units.
This also results in closer links with existing competencies and networks within Bayern Innovativ. The change creates a clear assignment without shifting content - and improves the conditions for effectively integrating digital topics into current structures. An objective step with practical effects for cooperation, exchange and project work.
