Since 2022, the Innovative Building Platform has been working with other institutions in a regional initiative to promote a more circular economy in the construction industry. The Augsburg network "Circular Construction" under the leadership of A3 Regio Augsburg Wirtschaft GmbH successfully organizes events on the topic and connects all interested parties across the entire material cycle - from the building product to planning and execution to demolition and recycling.

The sixth event in our “Circular Construction” series focused on the economic viability of circular construction methods. What potential do recycling, reuse, and urban mining offer? And how can circular principles be implemented in construction practice, both technically and economically? Concrete real-world examples made it clear: Circular construction is already feasible and economically competitive today. Key factors include early planning, reliable information, and a holistic approach to procurement, use, demolition, and disposal. At the event held at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences on September 23, 2026, the network informed over 80 guests about the wide range of possibilities.
Reusing Components—Here's How It Works!
The reuse of building components is an essential part of circular construction. Building materials—and even entire components—are dismantled from existing buildings and reused in new construction projects. On November 12, 2025, over 100 guests took the opportunity to learn about specific options and exchange ideas.

Circular Planning—Here's How It Works!
The fourth event in our “Circular Construction” series, held on December 10, 2024, focused on architects and planners. What factors should be considered when planning buildings, and how can the principles of circular construction be incorporated as early as the design phase? The event offered the approximately 100 participants the opportunity to exchange ideas with experts and practitioners, learn about innovative approaches, and discuss the latest developments in the field of circular construction.

Deconstruction and reuse of building materials - how it works!
How do you approach an existing building to enable legally compliant deconstruction and the reuse of materials? Over 150 participants learned about new developments in circular construction at the State Office for the Environment on November 7, 2023. Architects, planners, construction companies and building owners received assistance and specialist information on how to deal with the current legal framework in the most effective way possible in terms of the circular economy.

Building with R-concrete - how it works
There are a growing number of buildings made from recycled concrete in Bavaria and Germany. How do these pilot projects become standard? This was the question addressed by over 150 participants at the event "Building with R-concrete - how it works" on March 8, 2023. Finances, quality, technology, organization - no question should remain unanswered! Experts, builders and planners from the Augsburg region took the opportunity to network with potential partners for future projects.

Circular construction - ideas from planning to demolition
This kick-off event gave everyone interested in the topic the opportunity to discuss questions, network and be inspired by pioneering model projects. In a workshop section, ideas were developed on how to move forward together, who should work together and what solutions are needed to advance the circular economy in construction.
The kick-off event on October 18, 2022 was a complete success with over 150 participants from the entire material cycle - from building products to planning and execution through to demolition and recycling.
