Development of regional (Bavarian) value chains for the circular economy in the battery industry

The need for sustainable energy storage systems for electromobility and renewable energies is growing steadily. At the same time, the demand for batteries in consumer goods is also increasing. These developments pose numerous challenges along the complex battery value chain - from the extraction of raw materials to production and recycling.

The "CE:Battchain" cross-cluster project combines the expertise of the Energy Technology Cluster, the New Materials Cluster and the Bavarian Environmental Cluster. The aim is to strengthen the Bavarian battery value chain in terms of the circular economy. Targeted networking events and working groups are used to identify synergies, promote cooperation and create a platform for exchange.

Focal points of the project

Networking & cooperation: Stakeholders from the entire battery value chain are brought together to promote the exchange of research results and the finding of innovative solutions.
Regional recycling clusters: Formation of regional clusters to make recycling processes more economical by shortening delivery routes and sharing infrastructure and technologies.
Integration of new technologies: Identifying and promoting synergies in the circular battery economy, particularly in lithium-ion technology.
Development of a material cycle: Outlining a sustainable battery cycle system in cooperation with research and industry partners, taking regulatory and technical requirements into account.
Platform for exchange: Creating opportunities for stakeholders along the entire value chain - from raw material suppliers to recycling companies - to discuss challenges, research results and solutions.

Cooperation & synergies

Targeted networking events and working groups provide a platform for exchange between all players in the battery sector. The aim is to identify synergies, promote cooperation and create further platforms for dialog on current challenges, research results and innovative solutions. A continuous exchange between the players strengthens innovation along the entire value chain.
