The Gutmann brewery in Titting, together with the Institute for Energy Technology (IfE) at the OTH Amberg-Weiden and N-ERGIE, has presented a comprehensive roadmap for the climate-friendly transformation of its site.

The aim is to reduce CO₂ emissions by at least 40 percent by the end of 2030 and to achieve virtually emission-free production in the long term.

The core of the strategy is the consistent electrification of energy-intensive processes. Plans include a 2 MW electric steam boiler and a 5 MW battery storage system with a capacity of 10 MWh. Both systems will make optimum use of the green electricity generated on site from an existing 5 MWp photovoltaic system and planned future wind turbines.

The family brewery also relies on digital energy management systems that coordinate power generation, storage and consumption in real time. The aim is to achieve economical and reliable production that intelligently links weather data, electricity prices and operational requirements.

An innovative concept for feed-in management was also developed together with N-ERGIE. So-called non-usability messages in the redispatch process are intended to ensure that the electricity used directly on site remains available even in the event of grid bottlenecks. This means that production processes can be operated in a stable and climate-friendly manner.

According to the project partners, the planned measures will save around 960 tons of CO₂ per year. This corresponds to around 82% of current emissions at the site. In addition to technical innovations, the brewery is also focusing on ecological enhancement: additional habitats for native animal and plant species have been created within the open-space PV system together with the Altmühltal Nature Park.

Gutmann and IfE have been working together for 27 years. The project is also part of an energy efficiency network that is to be expanded in the future. A new network for breweries and companies in the food industry will strengthen the transfer of knowledge and support other companies in their transformation.
