25 years of Ergo-Tec and many ideas for tomorrow
08.10.2025
What began 25 years ago with a small five-person team in a rented hall is now an integral part of medical technology. Ergo-Tec GmbH is celebrating its anniversary and at the same time looking resolutely to the future. Since its foundation in 2000, the company has developed into a proven partner for the development of customized products. The company also offers complete solutions. Whether prototype or series production, Ergo-Tec's work has always been characterized by proximity to the customer, technical precision and a clear commitment to innovation.
Today, the medium-sized company has around 40 employees and has several production and storage areas in the Franconian region. A new hall was recently completed, creating additional production space. Ergo-Tec is thus focusing on continuity and future viability.
Customized solutions and strong networks
In addition to manufacturing individual products for customers in the medical technology and mechanical engineering sectors, the company has been involved in research and development projects with partners from science, industry and practice since 2012. The aim of these collaborations is to improve patient care and relieve the burden on nursing staff. These are topics that are becoming increasingly important in view of demographic change.
A current example of this application is the HapticScan research project, which is being implemented together with the Chair of Manufacturing Automation and Production Systems (FAPS) at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and other partners. Here, the process of prosthetics is considered, because traditionally the fitting of the required aids is mainly done manually. This involves feeling the existing tissue and making plaster casts. In the HapticScan project, a new type of haptic scanning system was developed that digitizes this process and thus makes it more efficient. Ergo-Tec develops the appropriate positioning systems and measuring set-ups for this, thereby increasing the quality of care in orthopaedic technology.
Own ideas with impact: the TheraSwitch
In addition to realizing customer projects, Ergo-Tec also produces its own developments. One of these is the TheraSwitch, a mobile chair for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes that can be used during home visits, in care facilities and practices. It can be folded up compactly, transported easily and adapted to different treatment situations. The TheraSwitch thus supports therapists, doctors and nursing staff directly on site and increases flexibility in patient care.
Shaping the future - together with strong partners
Ergo-Tec works together with regional companies such as AB-CT - Advanced Breast-CT GmbH from Erlangen, which has developed the nu:view device, the world's first spiral breast CT with photon counting technology. This technology enables particularly precise and high-resolution imaging of the breast tissue with a low radiation dose and short scan times of just seven to twelve seconds. The procedure is carried out without breast compression and is therefore much more comfortable for the person being examined than the mammography previously used. A second radiation protection room is currently being set up for the production of such innovative devices in order to increase testing capacity and expand partner collaborations.
Looking ahead
The 25th anniversary marks a significant milestone for Ergo-Tec and at the same time the starting point for new developments. With a combination of customer proximity, innovative spirit and research expertise, the medium-sized company is helping to further improve medical care and relieve the burden on nursing staff in the long term. As a partner, Bayern Innovativ GmbH has been supporting the company for several years and sees its development as a best practice. Ergo-Tec GmbH demonstrates how the exchange between science, business and technology promotes and enriches innovative strength and thus strengthens the strong network in Bavaria.
