Profile
The increasing interconnectivity between Embedded Systems (Internet of Things) requires new security mechanisms to ensure reliable and secure operation. Research on PUFs provides unique identities and cryptographic keys in Embedded Systems, which are a prerequisite for future security. TUM are also developing energy and resource efficient cryptographic implementations and protection mechanisms to defend against implementation attacks. These attempt to draw conclusions about the secret contained within a system by measuring its behavior or introducing bugs. To accelerate the design of secure hardware, we develop tools that detect and close vulnerabilities in implementations as early as possible. In contrast to classical cryptanalysis, they focus on defending against implementation attacks, which pose a major threat to embedded systems. In their work, they further develop attacks with the goal of building countermeasures into systems even before they are circulated in large quantities.
