Helmut Rauch completed his degree in electrical engineering, specializing in communications engineering, in Stuttgart. After the German Armed Forces, his professional career began at Hewlett Packard.

From 1990 to 2010, he headed various divisions at Diehl BGT Defence, including the product line for the German/US missile program RAM, the Training Systems division and the Missile Systems Air division, consisting of six product lines with a focus on missile systems ground-to-air and air-to-air, ground-based air defence, training systems and customer support.

In 2011, he was appointed Managing Director Sales and Programs of Diehl Defence, followed by his appointment to the Divisional Board and, in 2019, his appointment as CEO of Diehl Defence and member of the Executive Board of Diehl Stiftung & Co.
