Giovanni Del Galdo has been Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS in Erlangen since November 1, 2025, and is responsible for the research areas of microelectronics, sensor technology and data acquisition, as well as signal processing and transmission.

After completing his studies in Telecommunications Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano, he earned his Ph.D. in 2007 from the Technical University of Ilmenau in the field of communications engineering. He has been contributing his expertise to Fraunhofer IIS since 2007, initially working in the Audio and Media Technologies division at the Erlangen site. In 2012, he was appointed professor at the Technical University of Ilmenau and took over as head of the Wireless Distribution Systems/Digital Broadcasting (DVT) research group. With the renaming to Electronic Measurement Technology and Signal Processing (EMS), the group became a department of Fraunhofer IIS in 2018, with Giovanni Del Galdo assuming leadership.

With his appointment as university professor of Information Technology and Electronics at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg effective November 1, 2025, he will also be named director of the institute.
