Gerhard Seifert studied physics at the University of Bayreuth, where he also completed his doctorate in 1994.

He then worked as a researcher and lecturer at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg for over 14 years, before devoting himself to photovoltaics at Solarvalley GmbH and the Fraunhofer CSP.

At the beginning of 2015, Gerhard Seifert took over as head of the simulation team at the Fraunhofer Center for High Temperature Lightweight Construction HTL, where he has been working on topics such as the digitalization of material development and thermal processes ever since.
