Andreas KNOPP (Dr.-Ing.) is a Full Professor of satellite communications and, since 2014, has held the Chair of Information Processing at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich, Germany.

He is also the chairman for the SPACE Research Center, one of the largest interdisciplinary research centers for space technologies in Germany.

From 2020 to 2024, he was a member of the supervisory board of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and has been a member of the DLR Senate since 2023.

He regularly conducts research as a visiting professor at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA (USA), focusing in particular on the use of small satellites for security applications.

Prof. Knopp is a member of various technical committees in the VDE/ITG and a Senior Member of the IEEE. He advises various German Federal Ministries on technological issues related to space communications and security, and he is a member of the Space Security Program Committee of the German Space Agency.

Prof. Knopp is a passionate entrepreneur and co-founder of several startup companies. He is the author and co-author of 200 scientific publications and holds numerous patents. Since 2020, he has also been the project lead for the space research project SeRANIS, which explores technologies for space applications in security and defense, funded by the Bundeswehr Center for Digitalization and Technology Research.

Prof. Knopp has received various awards and honors for his work and research, including the IEEE “Technical Recognition Award for Outstanding Technical Contributions to Satellite Communications” and the Silver Cross of Honor of the Bundeswehr.

Prof. Knopp holds a diploma in electrical and information engineering and earned his doctorate in 2008 from the University of the Bundeswehr Munich with a dissertation on multi-antenna communication systems. He is also a graduate of the 8th Executive MBA program at the Gutenberg School of Business in Mainz, completing a thesis under Prof. Péter Horváth on industry structure analysis of the European satellite industry (2010).
