Connection technology for power electronics

Heraeus products are found in electric and hybrid cars, for example, in the power electronics at:´

Today, semiconductors (IGBTs, diodes, etc.) are soldered with soft solders on ceramic substrates (DCB) and contacted by means of Al drills on the top side.

The new AVT materials, such as sintered pastes and adhesives or Cu/Al bonding wires and bonding rods, enable higher temperature loads and significantly improved reliability.

Sensors for electric cars with range extenders

Today, many electric cars are still equipped with range extenders. These are consumption-optimized two- to three-cylinder diesel engines. Special high-temperature platinum sensors are used here for exhaust gas aftertreatment. 

Control units

Modern passenger cars contain around 100 electronic control units, e.g. for transmissions, engines and electronic safety systems such as emergency braking and lane departure warning systems or brake control units. In these, and other assemblies, various metal and precious metal products from Heraeus ensure smooth functioning.

Heraeus supplies products and materials for electronics, motors and storage systems in the field of electromobility.

For this purpose, the precious metals and technology group from Hanau produces various high-tech products made of precious metals and sophisticated materials. These ensure, among other things, that power electronics, lighting and safety systems function smoothly.

Many Heraeus products are invisible helpers in motor vehicles. There are numerous assemblies in modern (electric) cars. These include electronic control units, power electronics modules and sensors. Materials and components made of precious metals and special materials from Heraeus are used in all of these devices.
