Profile
The Fraunhofer Institute ISC develops materials and technologies for the application areas of surface engineering and finishing, transportation and energy technology, adaptive systems, glass and ceramics, microsystems technology and life sciences.
Products
Life Science Business Area
The Life Science business unit develops non-metallic materials based on hybrid polymers, glass and ceramics for medical technology and biotechnology applications. The aim is to improve the performance and diversity of existing materials or to open up entirely new functions. Currently, products in the areas of dental filling materials and prosthetic materials, resorbable materials as carrier and structuring materials, as well as functionalized particles, hollow fibers, membranes, films and wet-chemical coatings with special biotechnological and medical functions are being developed or have already been successfully placed on the market.
.
Technology
Core competencies of the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC:
- Material synthesis and structure formation .
- Technology development for industrial processing as well as characterization .
The different aspects of these core competencies with respect to the broad spectrum of materials and application areas are addressed in our 12 competence fields. Materials science focuses on sol-gel or nanochemical processes for ORMOCER®e (hybrid polymers) and ceramics. Further focal points are in the field of development and characterization of glasses as well as in process technology.
