Bio-Gate's technology is based on the antimicrobial effect of silver ions. The company uses only pure metallic silver. Bio-Gate has two different technologies. One is the incorporation of silver particles (for example in textiles, cosmetics, paints and coatings, or plastics), and the other is the coating of end products (for example implants or wound dressings) with a silver-containing, functional layer.

In both technologies, silver is used in particularly small particle sizes. This is because the aim is to ensure that a particularly large number of silver ions are released. The small size or sponge-like porosity of the particles facilitates the increased release of silver ions. Advantage is also that due to the structure the release of silver ions is very precisely dosed and the effect long lasting.
