At the ZLP site in Augsburg, which is also the Automation and Quality Assurance Department in Production Technology at the Institute of Structures and Design, science and industry are working together to develop new processes to make it easier for innovations to find their way into industrial implementation.

In order to be able to respond to the specific requirements of the aerospace industry in line with demand, DLR scientists are developing automated production processes for CFRP aerospace structures in an integrated process chain. At the heart of this is a research platform that is unique in Europe: the "MFZ facility". It and other innovative facilities at ZLP Augsburg integrate new robot-based production and quality assurance technologies for lightweight structures on a full-scale. Industrial companies can work on the facilities and use DLR's know-how in joint projects. This creates an efficient innovation network in the long term.
