The Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities is the most research-intensive state academy in Germany. It conducts innovative long-term research, networks scholars across disciplinary and national boundaries, and promotes young scientists. With more than 60 projects, the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities conducts innovative basic research in the humanities and social sciences as well as in the natural and technical sciences.
The following four institutes are located at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities:

- The Walther Meissner Institute for Low Temperature Research
- The Commission for Bavarian Regional History at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences
