Summary

Material solutions for energy, the environment and health

Profile

The Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC is one of the most important Bavarian centers for materials-based research and development in the fields of energy, environment and health. In 2017, the Fraunhofer Translational Center for Regenerative Therapies in Würzburg was integrated into the Fraunhofer ISC. More than 450 employees work at the institute's five locations.

The Fraunhofer ISC is headquartered in Würzburg with the main building and the Würzburg Translational Center as well as a branch office in Bronnbach/Wertheim. Other locations are the Fraunhofer Center for High Temperature Lightweight Construction HTL in Bayreuth and the Fraunhofer Project Group for Materials Recycling and Resource Strategies IWKS in Alzenau and Hanau. In addition, the application centers "Textile Fiber Ceramics" at the Hof-Münchberg University of Applied Sciences and "Resource Efficiency" at the Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences are also part of the Fraunhofer ISC.

In addition to contract research and development, the institute offers production-related analysis and characterization, process optimization, equipment construction and the upscaling of manufacturing and processing methods to pilot scale. This makes the Fraunhofer ISC a competent partner for many companies in the development of new products as well as in quality assurance and future-proofing.
