KEYOU's H2ICE city bus project
As part of the Bavarian joint research program, funding line "Mobility - Innovative drive technologies for mobile applications", the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy funded the joint project H2ICE city bus, which aimed to develop a 12m city bus with a hydrogen combustion engine.
The special feature of this vehicle is that the engine developed on the basis of a diesel engine platform is operated here as a mild hybrid variant and therefore meets the requirements that a transport company places on a city bus to a particularly high degree.
At the heart of the vehicle is the KEYOU-inside system developed by KEYOU, which can be used in future to convert existing vehicles regardless of the engine or manufacturer. Paul Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH carried out the conversion and integration work for the prototype vehicle as part of the project. The Munich University of Applied Sciences was responsible for evaluating the economic efficiency and environmental compatibility of the developed engine concept with regard to the entire value chain.
