BayTOU

Success stories

The BayTOU funding program supports company founders and young technology companies in the development of new products, processes and technical services as well as in the development of a business concept. The aim is to encourage company start-ups in promising technology areas and thus contribute to the creation of highly qualified jobs and to strengthening the competitiveness of the Bavarian economy.

Development of an innovative electronic locking system

smartloxx develops and produces battery-operated mechatronic locking systems.

Implementation period of the development project: 2014 - 2016

Even today, access authorization is still primarily granted by mechanical locking systems. In recent years, electronic locking cylinders have become increasingly established on the market, especially in the commercial sector. However, until the start of this project, transponders, chip keys or chip cards still had to be inserted into reading slots or held at a short distance and then stowed away again - a cumbersome opening process.

In the project, the company Smartloxx has developed a locking system that is characterized by several unique features.

The smartphone is the key and remains in the pocket when opening, or the system can be opened using a code if the smartphone is not at hand. The concept also offers the highest security standards. The code is encrypted and stored directly in the cylinder and in the smartphone, i.e. not in a cloud or even on a third-party server. Each cylinder is secured with pulling and drilling protection and is adjustable in length. The telescopic axis of the cylinder can be pulled to the desired length and fits all door thicknesses. No costly measurements or time-consuming orders depending on the door thickness.

In this project, mechanics, electronics and software were intelligently combined and further developed to bring a completely new product to the market.

The market launch of the locking cylinder took place in Q4/2019.

QUEENS: Quantification of uncertain effects in engineering systems

In this project, AdCo EngineeringGW GmbH developed a software platform for uncertainty quantification (UQ) for predictive simulations taking into account uncertainties in model input parameters. The software can be used for numerical simulations with UQ of e.g. technical systems and manufacturing processes.

In order to significantly reduce the enormous computational effort usually associated with stochastic simulations, a so-called "multi-fidelity strategy" was pursued and implemented in the funded project.

This means that, compared to deterministic models, significantly more predictive simulations can now be made possible without the excessive computational effort typically associated with them in the development process.
