The lecture explains the gender health gap as a central problem of modern healthcare, shows its historical causes and current evidence and uses gender bias, digital applications and international practical examples to illustrate how the healthcare system can make a concrete contribution to reducing these differences in care.
Many AI applications are already ready for use in emergency care, but the horizon of what is possible is not yet clear. AI could be particularly valuable in emergency medicine with its characteristics of urgency, uncertainty and complexity. However, there are still unresolved issues, such as the acceptance of AI recommendations that can no longer be understood due to their black box decision-making processes.
Prof. Dr. Thomas Fleischmann is Professor of Physician Assistance with a focus on clinical emergency medicine at SRH University Heidelberg. At Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, he teaches the economics of emergency care and the economics of hospital reform in the Department of Economics and Social Sciences. He is the editor of several books on clinical emergency medicine and is intensively involved with artificial intelligence in emergency medicine.
