Play an active role in shaping the digital future of your municipality. In this issue of "Smart City Inside" as part of the "Kommunal? Digital!" project of the Bavarian State Ministry for Digital Affairs, you will gain practical insights into the three Kommunal? Digital! projects from Ebersberg, Ergoldsbach and Luhe-Wildenau - from smart energy management, climate resilience and a construction machinery rental exchange. The aim is to share knowledge of tried-and-tested solutions and thus support the digitalization of Bavarian municipalities.

On March 3, 2026 , the Kommunal? Digital! award winners Ebersberg, Ergoldsbach and Luhe-Wildenau will present their implemented solutions and experiences:

  • Smart energy management - with real-time data and an innovative platform solution, district of Ebersberg
  • KliWAS - Local climate data, fast warnings for more safety in municipalities, Markt Ergoldsbach
  • Rent a Bauhof - Sharing machines instead of buying them: The lending exchange for municipalities, Markt Luhe-Wildenau

You will receive answers to questions such as:

  • What added value does the implemented solution deliver?
  • How can other municipalities benefit from these projects?
  • What challenges arose during implementation?
  • What resources and skills are required?

Afterwards, there will be time for your questions. Take the opportunity to exchange ideas with the project managers and gain inspiration for your own municipality.

The event's target group is Bavarian municipalities that want to tackle current challenges with the help of digital solutions.

Participation in the online event is free of charge.

What is municipal? Digital!

"Kommunal? Digital!" is a funding program of the Bavarian State Ministry for Digital Affairs that was launched as an ideas competition at the end of 2020. A total of over 70 project ideas were submitted to the competition. From December 2021 to September 2024, ten winning municipalities received a total of around four million euros in funding to implement pioneering solutions in the areas of climate resilience, resource efficiency and citizen participation.

The Ministry of Digital Affairs is currently supporting a transfer phase in which the digital concepts and solutions already developed are to be transferred to other municipalities in a targeted manner. This creates synergies, knowledge is shared and digitalization in Bavaria progresses faster. Not every municipality has to start from scratch: "Kommunal? Digital!" focuses on the exchange of proven solutions, adapted to local needs.

More about the ideas competition "Kommunal? Digital!" - sponsored by the Bavarian State Ministry for Digital Affairs - and an overview of the ten winning municipalities as well as detailed information on the projects such as profiles and videos can be found here: Kommunal? Digital! Funded projects
