Chilean delegation from VERTREBRAL visits Augsburg

Association of Vocational Institutes and Technical Training Centers of Chile learns about Bavaria as a production location

30.10.2025

A delegation of 20 representatives from the Chilean organization VERTREBRAL spent a week in Bavaria to find out about the Bavarian innovation ecosystem and successful forms of cooperation between business, science and networks. One of the stops was Augsburg with the Augsburg Innovation Park, the Augsburg AI Production Network and the Mechatronics & Automation Cluster of Bayern Innovativ.

As three closely cooperating organizations at the Augsburg location, the Augsburg Innovation Park, the Augsburg AI Production Network and the Materials and Environmental Research User Center (AMU) of the University of Augsburg as well as the Mechatronics & Automation Cluster of Bayern Innovativ welcomed the guests together.

Wolfgang Hehl presented the Augsburg Innovation Park as a central location for technology-oriented companies, start-ups and research institutions - especially in the field of production. He showed how the location promotes knowledge transfer and cooperation between science and industry through its infrastructure and networking activities. Targeted settlement policies and support measures have created a unique location in Augsburg, which brings together numerous top-class research institutions and companies and also offers the best conditions for start-ups.

Stephan Schlüter from the AI Production Network Augsburg deepened the insights with a presentation of the activities of the University of Augsburg in the areas of transfer, education and qualification in the field of artificial intelligence. Among other things, the focus was on the services offered by the Application Center for Materials and Environmental Research (AMU), which makes the expertise of the Institutes of Physics (IfP) and Materials Resource Management (MRM) as well as other institutes of the University of Augsburg from the mathematical, scientific and technical fields available to industry and society. STEM education is one of the two focal points here. The cooperation with the chambers in the qualification of trainees for AI on site in Hall 43 as an AI learning environment and the regional MINT network MINT-Region A³, including the DLR_School_Lab University of Augsburg, aroused particular interest. There, pupils can experience future technologies, artificial intelligence, 3D printing, lightweight construction, programming and much more and learn about current research projects.

Dr Barbara Giehmann from the Mechatronics & Automation Cluster at Bayern Innovativ introduced the Bavarian ecosystem for supporting companies and research in Bavaria and presented the cluster's current activities with a focus on cooperation between the players in projects in the areas of data spaces, materials and digitalization. Particular attention was paid to the strategies, innovation structures and funding mechanisms in Bavaria that support small and medium-sized enterprises in cooperating with research institutions and developing new technologies and products.
