Quarterly report on electromobility in Bavaria Q4/2025

New record: charging processes increase by almost 30 percent in Bavaria in just three months

22.01.2026

The number of charging processes carried out at publicly accessible charging points in Bavaria increased by over 800,000 compared to the previous quarter. This means that more than 3.8 million publicly accessible charging processes were completed in Bavaria in just three months.

The figures in detail (***see assumptions)

Charging infrastructure

1) Charging locations:

In Q4, modernizations or new installations were carried out at a total of 904 charging locations in Bavaria. In total, there are now almost 40,000 publicly accessible charging points available to electric mobility enthusiasts, whose current occupancy status and much more information can be viewed via the Bavarian Charging Atlas (Ladeatlas Bayern). Over 20 percent of these new charging points are purely fast-charging locations with CCS plugs. 7.5 percent are so-called charging hubs, where both AC and DC charging points are available for electric vehicles. Accordingly, the proportion of new or renovated AC-only charging points was around 70 percent in the last quarter. The total charging infrastructure in Bavaria currently consists of 71.6% AC-only charging points, 15% DC-only charging points and a good 13% mixed locations.

2) Charging processes:

The more than 3.8 million charging processes handled (at publicly accessible charging points) in the past quarter represent a new absolute record in Bavaria. As in the previous quarter, the 2.18 million fast charging processes exceeded the number of AC charging processes (1.63 million). It can be observed that the gap is continuously widening and the ratio of AC to DC charging processes was most recently 0.75 to 1. From the operators' point of view, it is also pleasing that the average number of charging processes per charging point has increased by over 20% to an average of 96 processes per quarter. An average of around 25.7 kWh was charged per charging process (forecast). In total, this means that the amount of energy charged in Bavaria in Q4 2025 was almost 100 GWh, which also represents a new record.

3) TOP 10 charging locations in Bavaria

The BMW site in Munich is one of the largest (semi-)public charging hubs in Bavaria, with over 600 charging points and a wide range of charging capacities for its users. Due to the high number of charging points, a correspondingly high number of charging processes are handled there. For this reason, this location was once again able to secure first place. In terms of the average number of charging processes per charging point, however, this location, with 48 charging processes per quarter, is well below the Bavarian average, which, as mentioned, was 96 in Q4/2025.
The situation is completely different at locations 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7. At these Ionity fast-charging parks, which are located directly on freeways 8, 9 and 94, more than 1,000 charging processes per charging point were once again processed in the last quarter, in some cases well over 1,000. This means that these charging points are used more than ten times as often as the Bavarian "average charging point". The 2,157 charging processes per charging point in Winterbruckenweg in Friedberg even correspond to an average of over 23 charging processes per charging point per day.
In Q4 2025, the large parking lot in Ingolstadt (Ettlinger Straße), where Audi has installed almost 200 (semi-)public AC charging points, is also represented in the TOP 10 for the first time.

4) TOP 10 CPOs in Bavaria

In terms of CPOs (charge point operators), a differentiated picture emerges for AC and DC operators in Bavaria.
Over a third of Bavaria's publicly accessible AC charging points are operated by Ladeverbund+ and Stadtwerke München. Vaylens, Grid & Co. and LichtBlick follow at a considerable distance behind. The TOP 10 AC CPOs operated almost 64% of the Bavarian AC charging infrastructure in Q4 2025.
The picture is somewhat different for the operators of Bavarian DC charging infrastructure with a nominal charging capacity of up to 130kW. On the one hand, four food retailers - Kaufland, Lidl, ALDI Süd and Edeka - are represented among the TOP10 CPOs. Secondly, the DC charging market in Bavaria is not quite as strongly dominated by two CPOs as is the case in the AC market. Nevertheless, the two largest players in the DC market, E.ON Drive Infrastructure and EnBW, have a market share of over 28%. They are followed at some distance by three of the aforementioned food retailers Kaufland, Lidl and ALDI Süd. At 66%, the TOP 10 DC CPOs operated almost exactly two thirds of the Bavarian DC charging infrastructure in Q4 2025 and therefore had a similarly high market share in total as the AC TOP 10 CPOs.

Electric vehicles:

The share of new registrations (BEV + PHEV) of electric vehicles in Bavaria in Q4/2025 was 33.6%, 5.5 percentage points above the previous quarter and 46.2 percentage points above the same quarter of the previous year. This shows that the proportion of newly registered BEVs + PHEVs has risen continuously and significantly in recent quarters, even without subsidies. As a result, one in three newly registered cars in Bavaria can now be powered purely by electricity. With regard to the vehicle population, it can be stated that there are now already over 600,000 chargeable cars registered in Bavaria. The number of chargeable cars (BEV + PHEV) per public AC charging point in Bavaria remains stable at 22 vehicles. One DC charging point is again shared by the equivalent of 45 BEVs. This means that the expansion efforts of the charging infrastructure in Bavaria, also with the support of the state's own charging infrastructure funding program, can keep pace with the current number of new e-vehicle registrations.

The proportion of new registrations of BEVs in Bavaria in Q4 was 22.2% and of PHEVs 11.4%. The largest share of pure electric vehicles (BEVs) in new registrations was registered in the administrative district of Lower Franconia (25.9%). This was closely followed by the administrative district of Swabia with 24.3%. In Q4/2025, the share of new registrations of BEVs was over 20 percent in all seven Bavarian administrative districts. This figure has only been achieved once before (in Q4/2022) due to the subsequent reduction in vehicle subsidies.

The electrification trend is once again showing a particularly strong upward trend for e-trucks. In Q4 2025, e-trucks accounted for 16.3 percentage points of new registrations, 40% more than in Q3/2025 (11.5%). The share of newly registered electric tractor units (E-ZM) was 1.3% and thus also recorded a high increase of 30% compared to the previous quarter. More than 16,000 all-electric e-trucks and e-trucks are now also registered in the commercial vehicle sector in Bavaria.

TOP 5 districts / cities passenger cars:

Broken down to cities or districts, the city of Aschaffenburg (Lower Franconia) landed in first place in Q4 2025 with a BEV new registration rate of over 46 percent. The district of Erlangen-Höchstadt (Middle Franconia) follows in second place with 36.4 percent. This is followed in third place by the district of Landshut (Lower Bavaria) with 33.4 percentage points, closely followed by the district of Ebersberg (Upper Bavaria) with 32.6 percent. Finally, the TOP 5 in this quarter is completed by the district of Starnberg (Upper Bavaria) with 31.8 percent of new BEV registrations.

TOP 5 districts / cities for e-trucks:

In terms of e-trucks, more e-trucks than conventionally powered trucks were recently registered in the district of Kronach (Upper Franconia) (51 percent share of new registrations!). The district of Kronach was thus able to secure first place by a wide margin. Second and third place go to the state capital of Munich (Upper Bavaria) and the city of Bamberg (Upper Franconia), which also have a high 38.3 and 37.6 percent share of new registrations respectively. The district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen (Upper Bavaria) follows in 4th place with 35% of new registrations. The district of Straubing-Bogen (Lower Bavaria) is in fifth place, some way behind, with 28.4% of new registrations for electric trucks.

*** Assumptions:
1) The vehicle stocks are based on the KBA stock figures at the beginning of the year and are still offset against a forecast of new registrations.
2) For the ratio of charging processes per charging point, we offset the total number of recorded charging processes against the number of charging points from which we obtain dynamic ("live") data. The ratio of dynamic charging points to the total number of charging points for Bavaria is over 80%.
3) The quarterly report documents the development of public charging infrastructure in Bavaria. The information on the development of these charging options therefore relates to publicly accessible charging locations and therefore does not generally take into account charging points from closed user groups (e.g. charging points in private underground car parks, on factory premises, etc.).
