New aluminum-based PCB technology

January 28, 2026

An Austrian SME is offering a new class of printed circuit boards and flexible printed circuits (FPC) based on aluminum conductors. By replacing copper with aluminum, significant cost savings (up to 25% less raw material costs), lower weight (up to 30% less mass) and reduced environmental impact can be achieved. The technology is compatible with conventional assembly processes and is currently being extended to multi-layer applications.

Potential applications can be found in the following areas:
- Power electronics for motor vehicles
- Battery management systems
- Lighting modules
- Industrial electronics
- Consumer and IoT devices
- Aerospace systems

Partners/ cooperation sought

The SME aims to establish aluminum-based PCB technology as a reliable and widely accepted alternative to copper by demonstrating its performance in various applications and ensuring seamless integration into industrial production and assembly systems. Companies and R&D organizations along the entire electronics value chain are sought for technical, commercial and research collaborations. License, joint venture and subcontracting agreements are also an option.
