A chart is worth a thousand words: In a current infographic, we regularly highlight figures from the energy sector.
In 2025, electricity generated from onshore wind power accounted for around 39.5% of gross electricity generation from renewable energy sources in Germany. Sunlight accounted for 26.8 percent of renewable electricity. In terms of all energy sources, including conventional sources, the contribution of onshore wind energy to gross electricity generation in 2025 was around 21.4%, as calculated by the BDEW.
Renewable energies currently generate over half of all electricity in Germany. Electricity generation from renewable energies has increased continuously over the past 30 years. In terms of wind energy, Germany was one of the most important countries in the world in terms of installed wind turbine capacity in 2024, alongside China and the USA.
