A chart is worth a thousand words: In a current infographic, we regularly highlight figures from the energy sector.

The construction of electrolysers and the associated infrastructure for renewable energies is very cost-intensive. In the medium term, the importance of higher-scale production of climate-neutral hydrogen using thermochemical processes will grow in order to compensate for any shortfalls in green hydrogen. By 2030, however, a large part of the European supply of over 2.5 million tons of climate-neutral hydrogen is expected to be produced by electrolysis of water (see green bar). This is shown by data from Hydrogen Europe. Their forecast is based on current investments and growth rates for the production of climate-neutral hydrogen.

* Thermochemical processes for the production of climate-neutral hydrogen include the steam reforming of hydrocarbon-containing compounds with subsequent carbon capture and storage (CCS), as well as pyrolysis and gasification. The process heat required for this is generated using green energy.
