SMEs: Innovative in the energy transition? Your perspective is needed!

Rising energy prices, new regulatory requirements and growing demands in climate protection are a burden for many SMEs - but they also offer opportunities to stay ahead of the competition. Innovation cooperations with start-ups can provide the impetus to turn your challenges into opportunities.

The SET Inno Tandems project is aimed at SMEs from the distribution network operator, metering point operator, municipal utility, data center and manufacturing sectors. The aim is to implement four innovation tandems consisting of SMEs and start-ups in order to develop solutions to problems in the energy sector. At the same time, we are creating blueprints for successful cooperation between SMEs and start-ups and providing impetus for legislation.

The project starts with a needs analysis and an assessment of your current energy-related challenges:

  • In which areas are your energy costs rising particularly sharply? Where do you encounter hurdles in the flexibilization of energy consumption?
  • Which regulatory requirements and climate protection regulations are particularly challenging for your company?
  • Where do you see potential for efficiency, digitalization and new business models?
  • Do you already have experience of working with start-ups?

The survey is anonymous and the aggregated results will be included in a publicly accessible final report, which will be published on the dena SET Hub project website: www.dena.de/set-hub

Borderstep invites you to take part in the survey (approx. 8 min) and help shape the content of the upcoming innovation tandems. The survey is open until January 30, 2026.
