Neighborhoods play a key role in implementing the heating transition - especially in the building sector.

A new publication sheds light on how cross-building supply concepts enable the use of local renewable energies such as waste heat, geothermal energy or ambient heat while efficiently pooling financial and human resources.

The focus is on innovative business models that not only protect the climate but also ensure the financial viability and social compatibility of the heating transition. The publication provides a well-founded overview of central fields of action, operator and organizational models as well as financing options. It shows which stakeholders are involved in existing districts, what challenges arise during implementation and what effects various model decisions can have at local level.

The publication is aimed at municipal decision-makers, energy suppliers, project developers and other stakeholders who want to actively shape the heating transition.

The publication is available for download on the website of the Institute for Ecological Economy Research.
