The companies Gisa and Aidon are working on a solution for low-voltage grid monitoring. A pilot project with Stadtwerke Meerane has already begun.
The IT service provider Gisa, headquartered in Halle an der Saale (Saxony-Anhalt), and the Finnish smart metering specialist Aidon have agreed a strategic partnership. Their aim is to develop a solution for monitoring low-voltage grids that meets the requirements of Section 14a of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG). Since the beginning of the year, this provision of the Energy Industry Act has obliged grid operators to integrate controllable consumption devices such as heat pumps and wallboxes into the grid and to ensure that they are technically controllable. With their cooperation, the two companies want to provide distribution grid operators with tools to better control loads and imbalances in the electricity grid.
The core of the project is the combination of Gisa's "Smart Data Platform" with Aidon's device technology. The platform processes measurement data from transformer stations and makes it available for grid load management. Gisa pursues a multi-vendor approach. This allows grid operators to flexibly combine systems and components from different manufacturers without having to commit to a single provider. Aidon supplies the sensors that record detailed data streams directly from the low-voltage grid. These are processed entirely in Germany, emphasizes GISA.
Uwe Klemm, Head of Energy Steering at Gisa, assures: "Our partnership with Aidon enables a highly secure solution that is specifically tailored to the requirements of German grid operators."
The first practical application of the partnership is at Stadtwerke Meerane. The municipal network operator supplies around 14,000 households in Saxony and Thuringia. As part of a pilot project, five local grid stations were equipped with Aidon measurement technology in February 2025. The devices provide data on voltage, current and load distribution via the outgoing lines. This forms the basis for intelligent load management in line with the amended Energy Industry Act.
According to Gisa, Aidon is contributing its many years of experience in the Scandinavian energy market to the partnership. Headquartered in Jyväskylä, centrally located in Finland, the company says it has installed over five million metering points in the field. Aidon has been part of the Gridspertise Group, which specializes in the digitalization of distribution grids, since the end of 2023.
Gisa has already announced that it will also be able to combine the joint solution with other hardware components in the future. The company intends to further expand its own expertise in this area - including through targeted training on Aidon technologies. Both partners plan to intensify their cooperation in further projects and work on additional applications for distribution network operators in Germany.
