The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE has presented cost-effective transformation paths for a climate-neutral industry in a recent study.
The focus is on the direct electrification of industrial processes and the use of emission-free fuels such as hydrogen.
The study shows that high-temperature heat pumps and electrode boilers are crucial for the provision of process heat, while the use of hydrogen is particularly important in the steel and chemical industries and in high-temperature processes. A comprehensive company survey confirms the need for planning security with regard to electricity availability and grid capacities.
The "IND-E" project is part of the research focus "Climate-neutral industry" and was funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.
