A deep drilling in the Upper Bavarian Halsbach has reached a productive aquifer. Already from next spring one wants to use the reservoir for the heat supply.

More than 100 liters per second, over 107 degrees Celsius: In Halsbach in the district of Altötting (Bavaria) drilling technicians have encountered a usable thermal water deposit at a depth of a good three kilometers, as the Federal Association of Geothermal Energy communicates. The groundwater is located in rocks of the upper Jurassic, Malm. The speech is from a "Hochscholle", which lies about 450 meters above the other Malmschichten in the underground.

The local enterprise nature warmth Kirchweidach Halsbach, which initiated the Förderbohrung, plans now a "hydrothermale doublet" in circa 10 meters distance. Via this re-injection well, the extracted thermal water is to be pumped back into the aquifer after it has passed through a heat exchanger. The technology for the use of the warmth wants to install the enterprise according to own data in the spring 2024.

With the drilling it concerns the second attempt in Halsbach. With the first one in May this year one had come across thermal water, the flow rate had been however too small for an economic use. Together with experts one discovered afterwards with the analysis of seismic profiles the high plateau, describes the enterprise.

Naturwärme Kirchweidach Halsbach was brought in the summer 2021 by the municipality Kirchweidach and the companies vegetable cultivation Steiner and bio yard Kirchweidach in the life. Background: The heat supply of the municipality - the heating network comprises 500 connections - and the greenhouses from the already existing geothermal plant is no longer guaranteed. The operator of the plant wants to use the well for power generation, according to reports.
