Vattenfall plans to build around 400 new fast-charging points at 124 locations across Germany by 2027 - including at doctors' surgeries and supermarket chains.

The energy company Vattenfall wants to accelerate the expansion of its public charging network in Germany and is cooperating with Mondial Kapitalverwaltungsgesellschaft mbH, a Munich-based capital management company (KVG) regulated by the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin). Together, the partners are planning to install around 400 fast-charging points at up to 124 real estate locations in Germany. According to a statement from the companies, these include medical centers and branches of Edeka, Rewe and Penny. The rollout should be completed by the end of 2027. As part of the cooperation, Mondial is responsible for site development, while Vattenfall is responsible for setting up and operating the charging infrastructure.

The new fast-charging infrastructure is aimed at visitors and tenants of the respective properties. The aim is to link electromobility more closely with everyday journeys such as visits to the doctor or grocery shopping.

Franziska Schuth-Krohn, responsible for electromobility activities in Germany at Vattenfall, sees the partnership as a contribution to the suitability of electromobility for everyday use. Fast charging points at central real estate locations make charging more accessible for many people, she said.

Partnership with a focus on ESG criteria

Direct current (DC) fast-charging points will be used to enable short charging times. According to a Vattenfall spokesperson who responded to an inquiry from this editorial team, the majority of the locations will be equipped with charging points with a charging capacity of 180 kW, although some locations will also be equipped with 400 kW points. It will be possible to use the charging points via Vattenfall's own "InCharge" app and via common roaming providers. Direct payment without prior registration is also planned.

Maike Günzel, Managing Director of Mondial, emphasized the strategic importance of the investment. The planned charging points strengthen the sustainability balance ESG (Environmental Social Governance) of the properties and their future viability. The partnership with Vattenfall fits in with the company's own claim to combine ecological responsibility with user orientation.

According to the project partners, the first locations are to be equipped with charging points this year. They have not yet announced exactly where these will be installed.

The Swedish energy company Vattenfall already operates tens of thousands of AC and DC charging points in several European countries, including Germany. Vattenfall employs around 20,000 people across the Group and supplies around 14 million customers. The company has set itself the goal of operating in a climate-neutral manner along the entire value chain by 2040.
