Schweinfurt FABulous | Artists in residence: vacant space becomes a lively creative space

26.03.2024

The city of Schweinfurt stands for industry and art. As part of the Schweinfurt FABulous project, "young" city makers are now bringing these two themes to Schweinfurt's city center in four sub-projects. The KunstFABrik sub-project is aimed at artists and students of the visual arts.

The city of Schweinfurt is undergoing change: on the one hand, technical innovations are making it possible for forward-looking companies to settle here. On the other hand, the city center, like many others in Germany, is undergoing structural change with a growing vacancy rate. Schweinfurt FABulous sees inner-city vacancies as an opportunity: the city center is to be revitalized and made fit for the future through new forms of use, thus continuing Schweinfurt's success story as a city of industry and art. To this end, the four sub-projects KunstFABrik, StudyFAB, RetailFAB and StadtFABrik were initiated as part of Schweinfurt FABulous.

"Schweinfurt as a city of art wants to open up to young artists through the KunstFABrik project and make the artistic creation process tangible ..."

- Larissa Seelmann, Project Manager Economic Development, City of Schweinfurt

ArtFABric

As part of KunstFABrik, a vacant space is rented by the city for two years to provide changing artists and students of fine arts with an open studio for a limited period. Passers-by will be able to observe artists at work or make contact with them. Events are also planned that will attract attention beyond the region.
