New funding measures for fusion technology

12.11.2025

The Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space has launched a new call for funding to promote the further development of fusion energy.

The first call is aimed at projects within the "Fusion 2040 - Research on the way to the fusion power plant" program. The aim is to further develop technology for the construction and operation of the world's first fusion power plant in Germany. Among other things, funding will be provided for approaches to inertial fusion and magnetic confinement as well as components and systems for extreme conditions. The measure is intended to accelerate the transition from basic research to application-oriented projects and establish an innovation ecosystem involving industry and science. Project outlines can be submitted until January 15, 2026.
