Oman, the Netherlands and Germany have signed a joint development agreement. They want to establish the world's first import corridor for liquid hydrogen.
The corridor will connect the port of Duqm in Oman, the port of Amsterdam in the Netherlands and important logistics centers in Germany, including the port of Duisburg, according to the Indian steel producer Tata Steel, which is also very active in the Netherlands.
The agreement enables the import of liquid hydrogen, which is compatible with renewable fuels of non-biological origin, to Europe. The agreement was signed on the occasion of the Sultan of Oman's state visit to the Netherlands. Tata Steel Nederland, the Port of Amsterdam and Ecolog are among the major industrial companies making this new trade corridor possible, it added.
The MoU was signed by a total of eleven parties, including players such as Hydrom (Oman's national green hydrogen organization), OQ (Oman's globally integrated energy company), Tata Steel Nederland, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG and Hynetwork. According to the steel group, these partners bring together all the important links in the planned supply chain.
This supply chain is based on proven technologies for the liquefaction, transportation, storage and distribution of liquid hydrogen. Ecolog's ship design ensures net-zero evaporation, which avoids cargo losses during sea transportation. This innovation significantly reduces unit freight costs and sets a new standard for efficiency and sustainability, it said.
