Bayernwerk's grid subsidiary is investing around 1.8 billion euros in infrastructure this year. Around one million is now flowing into new technology in the district of Deggendorf.
"Laptop and lederhosen" - the slogan once stood for Bavaria's development from an agricultural state to a high-tech state. As far as the expansion of the energy infrastructure is concerned, the white-blue state policy in recent years has, as is well known, tended to stick to lederhosen. In the meantime, however, the expansion of the electricity grids has picked up speed. And the laptop has been joined by the "digiON" in the parlance of grid operators.
Bayernwerk Netz GmbH is now installing five of these digital local network stations in Lower Bavaria between Hunding and Sondorf. In addition, the company is laying 2,100 meters of medium-voltage cable and 1,300 meters of low-voltage cable in the two communities in the district of Deggendorf. The lines are to replace existing overhead lines, which are to be dismantled by 2026 at the latest. Bayernwerk's network operator puts the investment volume at around 950,000 euros.
Feed-ins of more than 10,000 MW per day
A fraction of what is being invested in modernizing and expanding the electricity grid this year. The company plans to spend around 1.8 billion euros on this. By 2026, this figure is set to rise to more than 2.1 billion. Bayernwerk Netz reports that around one million renewable energy systems now have a direct and indirect impact on the grid, and feed-ins of well over 10,000 MW per day are not uncommon.
Digital local grid stations continuously supply data on the status and utilization of the electricity grid. "Thanks to the smart grid components, we can keep an eye on the utilization of the power grid at all times, allowing us to optimize the distribution of locally generated electricity," explains Jürgen Heininger, Head of Bayernwerk Customer Center Vilshofen. Four of the "digiONs" being built in Hunding and Sondorf are replacement buildings, one of which is a new build.
