The Commission has published the latest call for applications for "Gender Equality Champions". With this award, the Commission aims to incentivize inclusive gender equality policies in research institutions.

The award is given to universities, higher education institutions and other research institutions (public or private) based in a Member State or a country associated to the Horizon Europe research program that demonstrate excellence through the implementation of Gender Equality Plans (GEP).
The prize is awarded in three categories

  • The first is the "Champions for Sustainable Gender Equality" initiative: organizations that can demonstrate a significant and sustainable track record of activity and a high level of performance through the implementation of their good environmental potential.
  • The second project, "Newcomer Gender Equality Champions", is aimed at organizations that have recently completed the implementation of their first gender equality plan and can demonstrate the greatest progress made in its implementation.
  • The third project is "Inclusive Gender Equality Champions" and is aimed at organizations that have developed the most innovative inclusive good environmental practice - i.e. a GEP that addresses intersections between gender and at least two other social categories such as race or ethnicity, social origin, sexual orientation and gender identity (LGBTIQ) or disability - and can demonstrate concrete results achieved through its implementation.

The champions will be announced at an awards ceremony in 2025. Each winner will receive a prize of 100,000 euros. Interested organizations can apply until 16 October 2024 at 17:00 CET via the portal for grants and tenders.
