Energy Start-up Bavaria

Bavaria's energy future. Network. Found. Start.

Energie Start-up Bayern is an international competition to promote innovative start-ups from Germany, Austria or Switzerland with a connection to Bavaria's energy future and to network them directly in the energy sector. The competition was a joint initiative of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Bayern Innovativ GmbH, BayStartUp GmbH, Bayernwerk AG, the Bavarian Energy and Water Industry Association (VBEW) and Verbund AG.

The competition was looking for new business models and technologies that will advance the future of energy in Bavaria. In addition, all concepts that contribute to a secure, affordable and sustainable energy supply had an equal chance of winning. The winners were chosen at the Startup Demo Night onNovember 27, 2024inMunich's Tonhalle. Prize money totaling 18,000 euros was awarded to the three winners of the competition.

The competition partners congratulate the winners and wish them every success in the further development of their innovative ideas.

Award ceremony at the Munich Startup Demo Night

The award ceremony took place as part of the Munich Startup Demo Night on November 27, 2024 in the TonHalle Munich with over 800 participants and 70 exhibitors. Six highly innovative energy start-ups, including encentive, SOLAR MATERIALS and SPiNE Energy, made it to the finalists and were able to present themselves to numerous guests and investors from the start-up scene at the event before the jury announced its decision on the winners.

Dr. Carsten Rudolph from BayStartUp and Dr. Rainer Seßner, Managing Director of Bayern Innovativ, opened the awards ceremony. Hubert Aiwanger, Bavarian State Minister for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, then honored the winners. "Our winners this year focus on batteries - whether as electricity storage or for use in e-mobility. The focus is on the sustainability of batteries. Three ideas that make an important contribution to the success of the energy transition in Bavaria," said Aiwanger.

Excitement was high at the award ceremony on October 10, 2022 in Munich's Tonhalle. The six finalists of the competition had the opportunity to present themselves to a large audience, investors and the start-up scene at the Startup Demo Night. Prior to this, a jury had already decided on the TOP 6 as part of a pitch competition.

The Startup Demo is one of the biggest events in the Munich start-up scene. Around 70 startups presented their innovative solutions and prototypes live at exhibitor stands. All sectors were represented - from high-tech to bio sciences, IoT, mobility, lifestyle, health and sport. The event started at 6 p.m. and the three winners were expected to be announced at around 8 p.m.

The announcement

Then the time had come. After a brief introduction to the award ceremony by BayStartUP CEO Dr. Carsten Rudolph, the Bavarian State Minister for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy Hubert Aiwanger took the floor.
