BMWi launches AI initiative for industry

The Federal Ministry of Economics is calling on companies and research institutions to submit project ideas for industrial AI by January 21, 2026. The aim is a European IPCEI program with over 1 billion euros in funding to advance key technologies such as robotics, autonomous production and materials research. In addition to fundamental AI topics (e.g. foundation models), there is a particular focus on AI services and sector-specific use cases, especially with an industrial application focus.
Funding is provided for both individual projects by companies with a project volume of over €50 million and collaborative projects for experimental development with a total project volume of generally over €20 million.
