A new cooperation is set to drive forward the expansion of energy storage systems. "LION E-Mobility" is planning over 40 large-scale projects with the Munich solar power plants.
The battery specialist "LION E-Mobility AG" from Zug, Switzerland, wants to expand the market for energy storage systems together with Munich-based Solarkraftwerk & Verwaltungs GmbH. The subsidiary Lion Smart Production GmbH has entered into a strategic partnership with the Bavarian solar project developer. As the Swiss company announced in a press release on 13 August, the aim is to combine large-scale photovoltaic systems with storage systems as well as to implement stand-alone storage solutions.
According to Lion, over 40 projects are currently being planned. In addition to the intermediate storage of solar power, the battery systems are also to be used for grid services. In this way, the company aims to tap into additional sources of revenue. The Lion Smart storage systems are equipped with integrated inverters and are designed for rapid implementation in projects.
Joachim Damasky sees the collaboration as the key to a scalable business model. The CEO of Lion refers to the combination of the company's own storage technology with the project development experience of the partner. Florian Genssler also expects benefits from the cooperation. The Managing Director of Münchner Solarkraftwerke points to the rapidly growing demand for high-performance storage systems, which favors the rapid implementation of joint projects.
In particular, the partners want to appeal to customers who want to use storage solutions flexibly with or without a photovoltaic system. In addition to PV-coupled solutions, stand-alone storage projects are also to be implemented. Lion expects this to strengthen its position as a provider of complete energy storage solutions in the long term.
Lion E-Mobility AG was founded in 2011 and is listed on the stock exchanges in Munich, Frankfurt and Hamburg. The company produces lithium-ion battery packs for electric vehicles as well as stationary and industrial applications. At its German production site, Lion operates highly automated assembly lines with an annual capacity of around 2 million kWh.
The subsidiary Lion Smart GmbH develops battery systems with a particular focus on sustainability and performance. This also includes an immersion-cooled battery system. In this system, the cells are immersed in a non-conductive liquid in order to efficiently dissipate heat and increase the service life of the battery. The cooperation with Münchner Solarkraftwerke is seen as a step towards expanding the portfolio in the large-scale storage sector.
Solarkraftwerk & Verwaltungs GmbH from Munich develops and implements photovoltaic systems and energy storage projects in Germany. The company focuses on large ground-mounted systems and combined storage solutions and has experience in planning, approval and construction.
