The latest monitoring report on the cultural and creative industries (CCIs) in Germany shows a clear economic recovery. The report is published every two years on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK). The report was compiled by Prognos AG on behalf of the BMWK.
Michael Kellner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the BMWK, emphasizes:
"The cultural and creative industries are back on course for growth. The recovery effect, with rising sales and a growing number of people in employment, can be seen in almost all submarkets. The strongly audience-oriented submarkets of music and performing arts, which were particularly hard hit by the pandemic, have also recovered noticeably. With their innovative strength, our strong cultural and creative industries provide important impetus for other sectors of the economy and for society as a whole."
In 2023, around two million people were employed in the NPP - an increase of 130,000 compared to 2019. The number of employees subject to social insurance contributions has risen by 2.1% since 2022. Software/games (+4.6 %), performing arts (+8.3 %), music (+7.1 %) and film (+3.7 %) grew in particular. There were declines in press and advertising.
Sales also reached a new high of 204.6 billion euros in 2023. Software/games (+5%) and architecture (+3.6%) led the growth.
